Steps to make Homemade Pizza:

  1. Mix together warm water, sugar and yeast in a large bowl. Make sure the water is lukewarm and not too hot… you need to activate the yeast. After mixing, set aside for 10 minutes to proof. The mixture will become very frothy after 10 minutes.
  2. Slowly combine around 3 cups of flour, the salt and olive oil to the mixture. Start mixing and knead with your hands. If the mixture is too sticky, and sticking to your hands, add more flour. Knead by folding over and pressing the dough. Knead for about 5 minutes and form the dough into a large ball.
  3. Oil the bowl, and place the dough ball into the bowl. Cover with cling film and let sit in a warm area for around an hour. The dough should double in size!
  4. Once doubled, preheat the oven to 450 C.
  5. Oil a pan lightly and spread the dough on the pan to fill out the pan. Don’t pull the dough when doing this, but push tap slightly outwards to fill the dough on the whole pan.
  6. Now the fun part… add your toppings! I usually add the tomato sauce, followed by cheese and whatever veggies (or meat if you like) I have on hand. I used aubergine, artichokes, peppers, onions and mushrooms last time.
  7. Put in the oven for about 15 minutes. PLEASE watch your pizzas in the oven, they always differ with cooking times. You want the crust to brown and the cheese to melt. Make sure you take a look underneath the pizza to ensure the bottom is slightly browned and cook.
