Get 2 tsps Cumin Seeds
Make ready 2 Red Chillies (Whole)
Get 3-4 Slit Green Chillies
Get 1-2 Bay Leaves
Make ready 1 ” Cinnamon Stick
Get 3-4 Cloves
Prepare 3-4 Green Cardamoms
Prepare To Taste Salt
Take 1 tbsp Sugar
Get 1 tbsp Ginger Paste
Prepare 1/2 Cup Fresh Coconut (Grated/Cubed)- 1 Cup (If using Desiccated Coconut)
Get 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
Prepare 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder (Homemade)
Take 1 tsp Cumins Powder
Make ready 1/2 Bhuna Masala Powder (Homemade)
Get Tomato Chutney: 2 Cups Tomatoes (Cut into Cubes)
Make ready To Taste Salt
Make ready 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
Get 1/2 Cup Sugar
Get 1 Lemon Juice
Take 1 tbsp Cooking Oil
Get Kesari Halwa: 1 Cup Rawa/Suji
Take 1/4 tsp Salt
Get 1/4 Cup Sugar
Prepare 2 tbsps Brown Sugar
Get 4 tbsps Ghee
Get 1/4 Cup Freshly Chopped Nuts (Whatever’s available)
Make ready 1/2 Cup Milk
Take 1 Few: Saffron Strands (Soaked in Warm Milk)
A complete veg puja bhoger thali #saraswatipujavlog. Sandhi Puja is one of the most important ritual of Durga Puja. It is performed at the juncture of when asthami ends and Navami begins. Tomato Chutney is a simple dish made in a jiffy and even goes well with Idli, Dosa, Chapathi, Poori or Rice.
Steps to make MahaAshtami Sandhi Puja Thali: Luchi, Chholar Daal, Tomato Chutney & Kesari Halwa:
Luchi: Take sufficient Oil in a deep wok & heat up over the high heat until hot enough
Roll out the Luchis in your desirable round sizes and deep fry them in the heated oil until they fluff up from each of its sides
Transfer it to the serving platter & serve hot with sabji, Chutney, halwa, dal, etc.
Tomato Chutney: In a frying pan heat some oil over the medium heat & drop in the chopped tomatoes into it
Add in the salt & turmeric powder & sauté until they start becoming little mushy…cover the lid & simmer the flame for sometime & allow it to cook until absolutely tender & mushy
Open the lid- now, once it’s properly cooked add in the sugar & mix well until dissolved in it & the Chutney starts thickening
Lastly, add in the lemon juice & mix well- turn off the flame & transfer it to the serving bowl & serve either hot or chilled
Kesari Halwa: In a frying pan- Add in the ghee over a medium flame and roast the rawa in it
Once it’s light brown- Add in the milk, mixed with some water gradually & mix well until all combined
At this point: Add in the Sugar & mix everything together until well incorporated
Once the mixture starts leaving the pan add in the chopped nuts & the saffron milk & cook over a low -medium flame, for about 5 mins time, stirring occasionally
Turn off the flame & transfer it to the serving bowl
Chholar Dal: Boil the soaked Chana Dal in the pressure cooker with at least 3-4 whistles or until well cooked (depending on the water & the soaking time)
The Dal should be well cooked but not at all mushy…Now, over a medium heat- Put on the frying pan with the measured Ghee & add in the tempering spices
Sauté, until it releases nice aroma- Add in the Hing, salt, cumin & turmeric powder & sauté for a minute or so
Pour in the cooked dal now & keep stirring continuously (flame should be low-medium), add in the sugar & the slit green chillies & mix well
Once all well combined: Add in the garam masala & the Bhuna Masala Powder & mix all nicely
Finally, turn off the flame, once it comes to a couple of boils & add in a dollop of ghee- Turn off the flame & let it sit on its standby position for about 15 mins time before serving hot with the Luchi, Rice, Parathas, Fried Rice, etc.
Now blend the entire mixture to coarse powder and season it with tempering. Spicy Tomato chutney is ready to serve. I learnt this tomato chana dal chutney ( Thakkali Kadalai paruppu chutney in Tamil) from my MIL. We usually make this chutney for morning breakfast as a side dish for idli. U can try this tomato chutney recipe without coconut too.
